The bar chart shows the top three leaders in the production of four different dairy products, including milk, cheese, butter and milk powder, worldwide in 2012. Measurements are given in metric tons (MT).

Overall, the European Union took the lead in milk and cheese production, while India and China dominated butter and milk powder production, respectively. It is also worth mentioning that milk production dominated the global dairy output, given that milk production significantly outpaced the production of cheese, butter, and milk powder.

Milk production stands out as a leader out of all dairy products, with its figures vastly exceeding those of cheese, butter, and milk powder. The European Union was a leading region in milk production with 142,970 MT production, followed by India and the United States with their respective metric tons of 127,000 and 90,038.  Similarly, the EU highlighted its dominant role in cheese production with 7,120 MT. By producing 4,925 MT of cheese, the US became the second-top producer in the world, and this was followed by Brazil at 700 MT.

In contrast, the EU lost its leadership in butter and milk powder production, though it secured second and third spots in the ranking, respectively, with 2,040 and 770 metric tons. As for butter, India was ranked first, as it produced 7,500 MT, compared to 810 MT of the US output, which was ranked third. Meanwhile, China claimed the top position with a production of 1,200 MT of milk powder, slightly ahead of New Zealand, which was at 1,110 MT.
